In 1988, JoEllen Doebbert earned her Juris Doctor degree, with honors, cum laude at Mitchell
Hamline Law School in St. Paul, Minnesota.

JoEllen began her legal career clerking for the US District Court (US Magistrate Bernard Becker) and the Minnesota District Court (Judges Keith Davison and Terence Collins) before entering the private practice of law in 1991. Since establishing her solo practice in 1997, Ms. Doebbert has narrowed her practice to the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, and elder law. In 2009, Ms. Doebbert became a Fellow of the Legacy Builder Institute and began offering Legacy Conversations™ and Legacy Planning™ to her clients.

Ms. Doebbert was admitted to practice law in 1988 by the Minnesota Supreme Court and by the federal courts in the District of Minnesota.

Ms. Doebbert is a Fellow of the Legacy Builder Institute and the former Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Probate and Trust Law Section. She served on the MSBA’s Probate and Trust Law Section Council for 10 years and continues as a member of the Greater Minnesota Study Group and the Section’s legislative committee. She is a Member of the MSBA Elder Law and Real Property Sections and a board member to Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota. For more than 30 years, she has served the Bar in many roles: as a member of the Board of Governors, Chair of the Law Office Management committee, Chair of the Outstate Practice Section, Chair of the Outstate Secretary Selection Committee, Senior Counselor and President of the Sixteenth District Bar Association, and Chair of the Sixteenth District Ethics Committee, a Minnesota Supreme Court appointment.

Ms. Doebbert has served her community in Rotary, Lakes Area Professional Women, Glenwood
Literary Club, Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Alexandria, various school committees, and the
Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce (Past President).

Ms. Doebbert received the prestigious AAA Woman of the Year Award in 1996, given to a local woman who displays the award’s criteria of Attitude, Action and Achievement. Ms. Doebbert is the recipient of the Special Services Award presented by Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota in 1994 for her “extraordinary advocacy and commitment to justice for low income Minnesotans, and for services performed with quality, dignity and professionalism without regard to personal gratification or compensation.”

Ms. Doebbert is married to Belvin Doebbert, a native of Glenwood, Minnesota. They have two
sons, and make their home in rural Pope County in the beautiful Glenwood-Alexandria lakes
area.
